Many of you are encountering students submitting assignments completed using MS Office 2007. I had pushed the MS Compatibility pack last year so that you would not experience any difficulty opening these types of files (ex. “docx” or “pptx”). In the event that your computer did not get the compatibility pack installed, you may install it yourself from a link in the Teacher Folder called MS Office 2007 Compatibility File Converter:
Simply double click on the link and it will install a file converter. Voila! You shouldn’t have any more problems reading files from Office 2007.
Voicethread is a new open source application that allows you to upload pictures, videos, or powerpoints/slideshows on the web. What is nice about it, is that you can add audio or text “commentary” on each slide. If your students or colleagues have voicethread accounts, they too can view your shared “voicethreads” and make comments as well. Some great applications include:
promote critical thinking by having students comment on specifically chosen photos of historical events in social studies
have foreign language students complete discussion and assessments
upload class lectures and powerpoints for additional reinforcement and help for those that are absent
student projects on a novel, event, or concept.

If you encounter a message from what looks like a Microsoft Antivirus 2009 product, please do not proceed and use it. It is NOT legitimate and can corrupt your computer. Just dismiss it and close out.
